Overview & Challenge
I was responsible for the art direction, illustration, animation, and compositing for a FOX Networks promotional video for the FOX Sports GO app. This 20-second commercial primarily aimed to convey a key message: users could download the FOX Sports GO app from the App Store to watch their favorite NBA team's games anywhere, as well as every Caps game (NHL's Washington Capitals team).
The core challenge of this project was to leave a strong impression on viewers within a short timeframe and encourage app downloads. It was particularly crucial to visually and effectively communicate the message that diverse sports content was accessible through a single app.
Approach & Solution
My focus was on emphasizing the FOX Sports GO app's core feature – "diverse sports content in one place" – while providing a visually seamless experience.
1. Smooth Transition Design
To enhance the video's immersion, I devoted considerable thought and effort to applying smooth transitions (screen changes), allowing viewers to naturally follow the flow of information. I designed each scene to connect organically, visually highlighting the integration of the various sports content offered by the app. This effort significantly contributed to the final video's overall completeness.
2. Ensuring Visual Completeness Through Multi-faceted Role Execution
I personally executed several core roles, encompassing art direction, illustration, animation, and compositing. This ensured that the initial creative intent of the project was reflected with consistent and high visual completeness in the final video. Specifically, I was able to optimize the video's flow by controlling even the minute details of the transitions.
Project Outcome
This commercial effectively promoted the FOX Sports GO app's key strength: accessibility to watch not only favorite NBA team games but also every Caps game from anywhere. Within a short 20-second duration, it served as a successful marketing tool, guiding viewers to intuitively understand the app's features and benefits through natural transitions, ultimately leading to downloads. The visual direction and transition design I meticulously considered were well-applied in the video, leading to positive results.
